The Subaru intake manifold is what many believe is the showpiece of this incredible engine. Massive ports with smooth lines provides super intake efficiency. This awesome manifold dumping into a set of Subaru's incredible heads with four valves per cylinder is why their engine delivers such an incredible power to weight ratio, ideal for a sandcar. This masterpiece of engineering, along with Subaru's boxer engine infrastructure offers "hop up" possibilities that were only a dream just 10yrs ago. Even though a stock manifold is pretty efficient in a stock Subaru engine, it's fair ugly due to the casting for the OEM application. Outfront chops off all the useless aluminum of the stock manifold, welds up or plugs holes not needed in the sand, then polishes the assembly to a high luster as pictured in this photo. Onlookers marvel at the beauty of these manifolds, the eye is drawn directly to his engineering marvel. The "cool factor" of a polished intake manifold tells everyone that you're really into the sport of sand duning. When welding up all the holes that serve no purpose in an off-road application the manifold will heat up dramatically, often causing a slight warp of the cast unit and cause the sealing surfaces to become untrue. With OEM gaskets, this casting warp can create a serious air leak (not good). As a final step we resurface the mating surfaces of the manifold where it bolts onto head to insure they are true as a set, absolutely flat, so there will be no leaks. Outfront stocks intake manifolds for 2.0L, 2.5L SOHC, and 2.5L DOHC Subaru motors. Other manifolds also available. |
