Intercoolers are very important to keep the intake charge as cool as possible. In high output motors, when running more than 10lbs of boost the air heat up as a result of being compressed. This super heated intake charge can overheat valves and promote pre-ignition (ping) if not cooled down with an effective intercooler. Cooling also increases the amount of intake since the charge is more dense, resulting in more horsepower, a good thing. |
