The next step is to tin the RCA jack center terminal with solder.  This helps the soldering process of the wire to be quick, minimizing the heat to the center wire.

In this picture you can see the black insulation around the center terminal.  Although this black insulation shoulder isn't exposed much, the objective is to cover this center connection with heat shrink tubing as best possible to insulate the center wire from ground after the wire is soldered on.  Proper insulation around the center terminal will prevent shorts.

You're ready to solder the RCA jack onto the center wire.  Put a .5" long piece of .25" diameter heat shrink tubing around the center wire.  Quickly solder the wire to the center post of the RCA jack.  Remember, do not solder the ground wire, that will need to be bare strands of wire to pinch in the base.
This is what the solder joint should look like.  Make sure you let the soldering iron heat up fully before soldering the wire to the connector.  You want to be quick about soldering the wire to prevent the wire from heating up too much, potentially conducting heat to the heat shrink tubing, resulting in premature shrinkage.  We all know the problem with that.
After soldering on the center wire, do you best to shrink the tubing over the entire center terminal to prevent shorts.  In this example you can see the yellow tubing slipped off one side.  That's not ideal, but it will work OK.   If this happens, use the best location with insulation to place the ground wire on the threads to pinch in the base, minimizing the risk of a short.
